Wait...what?

Where did this come from? This is pretty fly, dude. It takes that style you've fit so well into and took it to a new height.

Something I feel I should really comment on is your use of distorted percussion in this song. While it was very wild and fit very well with the melody that followed it, I felt like it could've been a a little cleaner sounding. I'm guessing it was a snare you used for most of the glitched sounds. I feel that if it was higher pitched, the end result would sound cleaner.

OpenLight responds:

Yeah haha the distorted percussion was almost a side effect of creating the rest. I wasn't going to have any drum stuff but I listened to a drum pattern after distorting it and decided I had to do something with it, ha.

I was going for a dirtier sound with the drums, but I might not do that again, haha. This was mainly just me screwing around with stuff in song form, lol.

How can 57 seconds be so immersive?

I really hope you finish this track, it's just mesmerizing.

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

:)!

Holy crap.

This is very different from your usual style, dude. No percussion in it at all, but it works so well, given the feel of the song.

OpenLight responds:

Thanks! I may edit some stuff but I may just leave this version, I don't know.

This is what has been missing by you lately.

That return to the smooth, stylistic style that hooked me onto your music so many years ago.

The way you fused that repeating bassline with all of the different elements of the song as it progressed, that just so amazing. I say it a lot, but your music always manages to take me somewhere. While other artists worry about applying the impact as soon as possible, you lightly dust your songs with different elements, almost as if you know it will all come together and hit the listener when it's all over. While other artists concern themselves with constant, unexpected changes in their music, you stick to theme and variation with your sound.

This is now one of my favorite songs by you.

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Nice man, just now seeing this.

Thanks for the review. I worked a damned long time on this piece. I ended up losing the work file - killed me. I had wanted to make more changes to this, smooth some volume things out mainly. I never did get to finish and wrap up the final 3 minutes of this track. I'll figure something out for its full release. I try and guide listeners on a journey, familiar, yet unknown. I appreciate your kind words, it's really wonderful to have someone listen and enjoy what I try and bring to the table.

Okay, so...

This was a very well done song, but I'm not feeling it as much as some of your other songs. There's one thing you should start using in your songs for them to be perfect, and that is compression. This can have a number of effects on your songs, but it is mostly used for affecting volume levels without affecting the sounds themselves.

In the master portion of the Mixer, select Fruity Compressor and lower the gain knob. My only problem with this song was the volume, and lowering my volume settings just meant that I'd have to miss out on most of the lower sounds in the song.

OpenLight responds:

I'm hoping I fixed that in the newer version of this.

I didn't use compressor though. Ha, I didn't see this in time. I'll try it on my next one though.

It feels like the palace of Zeal in Chrono Trigger

It's very familiar, and yet very different. I absolutely love the way you mixed the different levels of percussion together with the melody.

This was just all around well done.

HexMonkey responds:

Never a bad thing to have a song compared to chrono trigger. Thanks for the review and good luck in the deathmatch.

Incredible

You know, if I lose you, I wouldn't mind. This song is just crazy, bro. While it takes some time to really pick up, when it reaches its apex, it just attacks the listener with breaks and soundbytes. I absolutely love this song.

poopr1221 responds:

Haha. Thanks man. I really worked to put my lol on. Seriously though, your submission was ace as well. Really loved the melody with the apeshit drums. Don't listen to that review on it, they're just being prudes. I really enjoyed it.

Genuinely impressive

You definitely got better since your last few songs, OL, and this one is no exception.

This song is absolutely wild with the guitar synths you used, the combination of the organs and that bassline made it so full and rich sounding. Easily the single best song you've made so far, and it sucks that it got downvoted.

OpenLight responds:

Thanks! I don't mind that it got downvoted, especially since so many people have given it good reviews.

Just went to town with the depth...

This is amazing. I don't usually listen to DnB, but this is sick sounding. The drum work is top notch, and that bassline is dubstep-par phatness. Add in the orchestral opening, and this is easily the highlight of my day.

Keep it up.

Breed responds:

Thanks man, I was pretty happy with what came out despite having a really short time to make it for Burning Man this year. My drum work really isn't that great though I have to admit, but the samples are great quality(East West). It's really just an udu, some taikos, an amen break, and some fat kick/snare over that. Thanks for your time to review my track though.

Cheers!

To put simply: :)

I love Monster Hunter, and this song brings me back so much. The sounds were a bit stock-ish, but the song was no less fun to listen to.

I'm gonna play Tri again now, because of this song.

drew6464 responds:

Haha! I love it too, though I can't find the time to play it anymore. The 500 Wii Points we got from buying it are gone, and I don't know why. Oh, well, it's a really fun game. :P
