I dunno this time around...

It's definitely something new and different from you, but the synth you used this time is a bit too harsh for me (but that's probably because my hearing is getting wonky from my allergies).

The melody changed up nicely, and the way you arranged the kicks this time definitely brought a whole new feel to the track, which is what makes breakbeats so magical.

Continue to incorporate them into your songs in different ways and you can get some really nice results.

OpenLight responds:

Yeah this is my first attempt at something like this. I made an alternate version I posted on youtube which is hopefully better.

This is really nice.

Listening to it actually reminds me of happier times in my life. I think it's always a great thing when a song can make you think, and this is no exception.

The synths you used worked really well with the bells, and the beat was just right. It evolved with the melody itself, which I thought was really cool.

Definitely faving this.

decoyultimatum responds:

thanks :)
when i made the first chord and initial melody i was going through my stock of instruments and i was like " this fits and this fits and hey this fits mwa hahaha so many instruments to choose from n_n "

ive been down lately and i thought maybe if a make a song to make me feel better and others too. so i tried to make a song with a kinda memorial feel that was also uplifting something that almost forces you to think back when times were happy and full of love

Still rave-y as ever, dude.

But I think that the beat could have been done better. It's just my preference, but a breakbeat would sound better against these synths. I get so used to hearing the boom tss in music that I end up wanting a little more variety.

Anyway, this is every bit as cool as the original, and I think it could still blow people away if it were played in a club.

OpenLight responds:

I wish I could do breakbeats haha. If you want to work with this, go on ahead. I can send you a drumless version of the mp3 or the flp file if you have Nexus.

Oh crap, I remember this song.

I used to listen to this on your GroundZero page all the time. I would always get the guitar parts stuck in my head.

Very cool song. It carries a mesmerizing tone to it, and the glitches and effects create an impossible-to-follow level of activity throughout. Seriously love the guitar parts, and the piano that would accompany is an awesome addition, I think.

Definitely one of my favorite older tracks by you.

LLAAPPSSEE responds:

Yeah, I remember only posting it to that website. Awesome you remember :D

With enough listen, the glitches will show you their patterns ;)

I was always a little self conscious about the piano. I'm never quite happy without using a real one. So I'll layer electronic and real samples together to get a more realistic sound and feel. Thanks for saying that, man. I think that's one of the only reasons I've never shown this piece off.

Thanks for the kind words Retroman!

This was amazing.

The amount of emotion put into it actually got to me a bit. Very well organized, and definitely one of the best things I've ever heard you make.

Also loving the different cues taken from Wind Sentinel, I feel this is exactly the direction I'd go with the song if I had made it today. Absolutely wonderful song.

OpenLight responds:

Thank you! I actually did put a LOT of emotion into it. I had just gotten done watching a set of 3 DVDs that were so awesome and the last DVD left off with a kinda depressing cliffhanger. Plus, there were more issues that are less funny haha.

Thanks again! I'm glad you like this.

Dat Amen

Sounds brutal. I love the variety you put into slicing that beat up, and it really picked up toward the middle of the track. The bassline matched up well with the beat as well.

Awesome DnB here.

Numi responds:

Glad you think so! I'm adding a tad of dubstep towards the end of this, the final is gonna be sick ^_^

My neck just caught fire.

Seriously, what the fuck.

Starts off very disorienting...

Then escalates into a sort of panicked frenzy of synths and wobbles. I definitely love the dark, helpless feeling this song gives off.

Of course, you have the solos you're so good at, and throw the wobbling synth all over the place to keep up with the erratic movement of the melody. Very good stuff.

OpenLight responds:

Thanks!

Yeah I'm glad to be done with this. Once I started, I knew I needed to finish it since it seemed like it was going somewhere, but it was difficult to manipulate the wobbles and very difficult to get the mixing right. Ah well. It's done now haha.

Great job

Definitely trying new things with this one, and it turned out pretty good. The synth leads were good, but I think it could've used more variation. The one synth pattern that stays in the background doesn't change throughout the song, and neither does the drum pattern. Making the synth change chords would spice things up much more, and adding some varied hat sequencing in certain parts would bring the percussion to life.

Still, I love how jumpy this song is, and the reverse playback at the end sounded great to boot.

!!!

I think I might have already used that as the headliner for a comment...

Anyway, I loved this song. Between the kickass synths and the accompanying bass, this was an action-packed track to listen to.

One thing I could say is that there were parts where I thought the kick drum could've been stronger to match the energy of everything else. When I get to collabing with you, maybe I could make my own version of it.

OpenLight responds:

Awesome!

Yeah I tried a bunch with the kick but nothing turned out right. I'm sure I could have done more but ah well haha.
